After experimenting with a variety of techniques and subject matter for a number of years, my work has evolved into imagery using words and language, textural surfaces, and often the incorporation of objects found in nature. When beginning a piece, the found object is sometimes the primary source of inspiration, recalling a memory or sensation; but more often I use snippets of poetry, conversation or puns to prompt the process of discovery and interpretation. Hand-drawn images and transference prints are often embedded within the surface of the piece, which become mixed media assemblages or layered original prints. This work traverses a wide terrain, from geological time and natural history to autobiography and emotions. “The world around us speaks to us in many different ways. The power of language and the abstract shapes of letters to create images is what interests me in this current work. Viewers may read into them what they want.”
