John Keast

Some of you may remember John Keast as a prolific artist who lived in Rydal Bank and was very active in the Four and Friends Show in Bruce Mines for years.  John passed away last year and Jean is organizing a show and sale of his work at the Art Gallery of Algoma to raise funds for charitable work to which both of them were committed.

Sarah and Libby, two long widowed sisters spend their summers on the coast of Maine.  Libby, the eldest, who is nearly blind has grown irritable and reclusive, now awaits the coming of “the escort” who will carry her off to join her husband.  Sarah, who is much younger, has taken care of her sister for years.  She now longs to be freed from responsibility and frustration that caring for her sister entails.  Enter Mr. Maranov, the debonair Russian Count who provides a diversion for her.  Each sister has a different reaction to his presence.  But alas, life goes on.

Mustang Sally

"Mustang Sally" is the name of a 13-member group of students, along with their music director Greg Rykman, from Korah Collegiate in Sault Ste. Marie. And it's just been announced that they are coming to Elliot Lake on April 20nd for an evening performance!

If you have ever seen the movie "School of Rock", then it will give you an idea of what "Mustang Sally" is all about. But just an idea. The group is a high school band like no other - playing rhythm and blues, rock, and soul. The students in the group receive a high school credit for their efforts - but playing music is only part of what they do.

They are expected to be role models for their peers as well as for future high school students. In fact, many of their performances are for elementary schools and positive attributes such as honesty, leadership, and responsibility are championed by the group members.

You might have seen "Mustang Sally" when they performed in Elliot Lake twice before to packed houses at the old Fireside. If you did, you have probably never forgotten their energy and professionalism. If you didn't -- don't miss them, this time!

Elliot Lake is one of the group's favourite places to perform, according to Mr. Rykman.

A limited number of tickets will go on sale soon at ELSS for the performance in the ELSS Gym.

Tickets are only $5 and they will go fast! Stay tuned.
