9/27/2023 0 Comments ARIEL's new home...maybeIn September 2023, Elliot Lake City Council's Standing Committee for Recreation and Culture voted to allow the Department of Recreation and Culture to negotiate with ARIEL to open an Art Gallery. Currently that department is renovating the former cinema to become the home of the Elliot Lake Arts Club and the Elliot Lake Model Railroad Club. Adding a gallery will enable the artists creating works in the building's studios to display and sell their work.
Both clubs supported the proposal ARIEL presented to Recreation and Culture. ARIEL thanks them for their support. A number of steps must be taken before the final proposal for the gallery can be presented to Elliot Lake City Council for approval. Those steps are currently being taken. As there is due diligence to be done, approval is still some time in the future. But that hasn't stopped ARIEL from fundraising. Outfitting the gallery is going to entail some serious shopping. We have to purchase a hanging system and a lighting system, so the art work can be displayed properly. Like any retail shop, we have to purchase supplies like wrapping and advertising materials. Display racks need to be refurbished. We were able to salvage some when the roof collapsed on the former Arts Centre, the original home of the ARIEL gallery. There are two ways you can help us get our gallery back. Donate to our GoFundMe campaign or become a member of ARIEL - your membership dues contribute to the bottom line. As a member, you can be as active as you like, chairing committees, being a committee member, or volunteering in the gallery. The future of the Arts in Elliot Lake is looking good, and we are looking forward to helping shape it.
